Full disc solar mosaic - May 6, 2004

Setup: Coronado SM60/BF10 H-alpha filter, Borg 100ED F6.4, IR reject filter, ToUcam web camera (1.8 "/pixel), Takahashi EM-10 mount (here's how this setup looks).

Webcam settings: 1/2500 sec (1/100 sec for background/prominences), 5 FPS, brightness=100%, gamma=10% (50% for background/prominences), b&w mode=ON, 640x480 pixels

Processing: K3CCDtools, Mira6, Photoshop7.

This is my first full-disc 2x3 mosaic incl. prominences; a total of 12 frames taken during a period of ~15 minutes. I found that K3CCDtools (in the absence of sunspots) was much better at aligning the frames than Registax. I'm not sure if this reflects an actual difference in capabilities, maybe I just figured out how to do it properly with K3CCDtools first (I use the 'planetary wizard' - normal mode). For this mosaic the webcam was operated in the standard imaging mode; i.e. with automatic color optimization, sharpening and some image compression. Later the same day I found out the the 'color optimized non-raw' (CONR) mode gives better results.

Here's my main page where you can see more of the pictures I have taken so far.
